In short
- The site has no advertising or analytics and uses only necessary cookies.
- I only collect data when you request the book or write to me through the contact form.
- Your data is not sold or shared, and is not used for sales contact, including my own property work.
- You can ask at any time for a copy of your data or for it to be deleted.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Jorge Alexandre Pereira, the author of this site, in a personal capacity, resident in the Algarve, Portugal. Contact for any privacy matter: jorge@algarve.life or info@crisehabitacaoportugal.com.
What data I collect and why
Book requests
- Data: name, email, phone, nationality, country of residence, relationship with property in Portugal, language of the request, whether you want news, date of consent and number of downloads.
- Why: to send you the book; to understand who reads it, internally and in aggregate; and, only if you asked, to send news about the investigation, at most once a month.
- Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
- How long: 24 months after your last request. After that, the record is deleted automatically. It is deleted sooner if you ask.
Contact form
- Data: name, email, subject, the page or statement concerned and your message.
- Why: to reply to you and, where relevant, to correct the site.
- Legal basis: your consent and your request for a reply (Article 6(1)(a) and (b) GDPR).
- How long: the message is not stored on the site; it is sent by email and kept in my mailbox for as long as needed to deal with it, at most two years.
Site security
To stop abusive submissions, the IP address of anyone sending a form is turned into an irreversible code and kept for one hour. The host also logs requests made to the server, for security and operational reasons. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies, analytics and advertising
At the moment the site uses only necessary cookies. If analytics (Google Analytics) or advertising (Google AdSense) are turned on in the future, they only work for people who accept them in the cookie notice. The details are in the cookie policy.
Who I share data with
- Hostinger International Ltd. (Cyprus), which hosts the site, the email and the content delivery network. It processes data on my behalf, as a processor.
- Google Ireland Limited, only if analytics or advertising are turned on and only for people who accept them.
- I do not sell, rent or pass on your data to anyone else.
Transfers outside the European Union
The site’s server is registered in the United Kingdom, which benefits from a European Commission adequacy decision, and the content delivery network operates in the European Union. If Google services are turned on, some data may be transferred to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
You can, at any time and free of charge, ask for access to your data, its rectification or erasure, restriction of processing and portability, object to processing and withdraw your consent, without affecting what was done before. Just write to jorge@algarve.life. I reply within one month.
If you believe your data has not been handled properly, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), at www.cnpd.pt, or to the authority in your country.
Other information
- Automated decisions: there are no automated decisions or profiling with effects on you.
- Minors: the book request and the contact form are intended for people aged at least 13, the age of digital consent in Portugal (Law 58/2019).
- Security: encrypted connection (HTTPS), access to records for the administrator only, and personal download links stored only as an irreversible code.
- Required data: without the requested fields it is not possible to send the book or reply to your message.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with the date of the update and, if the change warrants it, the cookie notice appears again. Last updated: 26-10-2026.
